The University of Iowa was forced to move its classes online to accommodate distance learning amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The institution also added another week into the spring break to give students ample time to prepare for online classes.
According to KCRG News, an associate professor of the university, Robert Cargill, praised the infrastructure that the school had put in place that has facilitated a rapid shift from in-person classes to online classes.
Having worked at the UCLA Centre for Digital Humanities before moving to the University of Iowa in 2011, Cargill was involved in building websites that host online courses and has mentioned the huge potential that lies in this form of learning.
Cargill has also been lending a helping hand to other professors that lack the necessary technological skills to adapt to online classes.
He said online classes have to be entertaining to keep the students focused.
"I can go sit on the Simpson's couch, and I can do office hours doing this way," he said. "I can go up into space and float around in the space station, we try to have fun while we're continuing to educate the students."
