Iowa City is offering some financial assistance to area households who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to a Community Development Block Grant-CV (CDBG-CV).
The city received an additional $390,000 in assistance to help households secure housing and prevent homelessness through CommUnity Crisis Services.
Funds are available to provide rent, mortgage and/or utility assistance to those financially impacted by the coronavirus. Iowa City has allocated more than $748,000 to CommUnity Crisis Services, Shelter House and Center for Worker Justice.
Here are some funding programs available, according to a city press release.
- Apply to Iowa’s Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Program. Information can be found online.
- If you are not eligible, or your application is denied and you are an Iowa City resident, apply to CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank.
- If you receive or have received state assistance, you can apply for this program after their assistance ends and there is no duplication of benefits.
- The City is also partnering with the Center for Worker Justice to provide additional funding through the From My Home to Yours program for those not eligible for unemployment or stimulus benefits.
- To apply, contact Center for Worker Justice at 319-594-7593.
