Three student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to join the University of Iowa men’s golf program, head coach Tyler Stith announced on Thursday. The 2025 signing class includes Andrew Johannsen from Johnston, Iowa; Joey Scott from Lemont, Illinois; and Cody Weaver from Gilman, Iowa.
“We are happy to welcome three top players and strong competitors to the team,” said Stith. “This class will immediately make the team better because of their talent and character.”
Joey Scott comes from Lemont High School in Illinois with several accolades, including being a four-time IHSA All-Conference and All-Regional selection, a two-time IHSA All-State honoree—the first in his school’s history—and a member of Team Illinois that won the 2025 PGA Jr. League National Championship. His scoring average is 70.2, with a career low round of 63. Scott also has multiple first-place finishes in regional tournaments and earned academic honors for the 2024-25 school year.
Stith described Scott as follows: “Joey’s a natural player possessing both power and finesse. He plays the game with a lot of confidence and isn’t afraid to compete. Joey’s game and personality will make a big impact on the team.”
Scott explained his choice by saying: “I picked the University of Iowa because I believe it will provide the best opportunity for me to grow as a student-athlete. The education and traditions offered in Iowa City are second to none. I am motivated with the strength of the coaching staff and the depth of my teammates to lead the Hawkeyes to a National Championship.” He is the son of Edward and Maripat Scott.
Andrew Johannsen joins from Johnston High School after winning the 2025 Iowa High School Individual State Championship. He was selected First Team All-State from 2023 through 2025, finishing his senior season with an average score of 69.60.
“Andrew is an exciting and powerful player,” said Stith about Johannsen. “He’s a committed individual who wants to compete and win every time he tees it up. Andrew’s talent and work ethic will be a great addition to the team.”
Johannsen commented: “The culture at the University of Iowa is unmatched. The coaches are wonderful, and I grew up always wanting to be a Hawkeye.” He is the son of Jeff and Mindy Johannsen.
Cody Weaver arrives from East Marshall High School in Gilman, Iowa, where he was honored three times each as All-Conference, All-District, and All-State in golf. Weaver won titles such as Iowa Junior Open Champion while also earning academic distinctions like membership in National Honor Society for two years.
Stith said about Weaver: “Cody had an outstanding summer and demonstrated he can win at the highest level of junior golf. Cody’s humble, intelligent and has a very good golf swing. He will be ready to compete and contribute to the team next fall.”
Weaver chose Iowa citing: “The incredible culture at the University of Iowa and of Iowa City was undeniable. The coaches and players were all extremely welcoming and made me excited to be a Hawkeye. I felt the University of Iowa was able to give me the best opportunity to grow as both a student and player.” He is the son of Todd and Stephanie Weaver.
