The Iowa women’s basketball team set a new program and arena record by scoring 119 points in their win over Evansville, finishing with a 119-43 victory at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Sunday. This result also marked the largest margin of victory in school history.
Iowa began the game with a strong offensive performance, going on a 9-0 run in the opening minutes and shooting 44 percent from three-point range and 57 percent overall in the first quarter. The Hawkeyes forced Evansville to call an early timeout after hitting three consecutive three-pointers and ended the quarter with a 15-3 run, holding their opponents to just 10 points.
By halftime, Iowa led 59-22. Senior Taylor McCabe contributed two three-pointers and one rebound, while sophomore Taylor Stremlow and freshman Layla Hays each added five points. The team closed out the half shooting 60 percent both from beyond the arc and overall.
In the third quarter, eight different Hawkeyes scored as the team added another 31 points. Freshman Addie Deal contributed seven points off the bench, which combined for a total of 18 bench points during that period. Iowa’s defense generated six turnovers that resulted in 11 points.
The fourth quarter saw Iowa continue its dominance with a 26-13 run. Sophomore Chit-Chat Wright recorded her first double-double as a Hawkeye within the first minute of the final period by reaching her tenth assist. "Wright notched career-highs in points, 3-pointers, and assists," according to team officials.
Layla Hays led all scorers with 20 points and five rebounds. Ava Heiden recorded her second straight double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.
Other individual highlights included Hannah Stuelke’s contribution of thirteen points on six-of-seven shooting along with six rebounds, two assists, and two steals—her sixty-third career game scoring in double digits. Taylor McCabe hit four three-pointers for the eleventh time in her career.
On a team level, this was Iowa's thirty-eighth time surpassing one hundred points in program history. The Hawkeyes have now extended their home sellout streak to thirty-eight games—the longest active streak nationally—and are undefeated against Evansville across four meetings. Since the start of the 2018-19 season, Iowa has compiled a record of ninety-eight wins and six losses when scoring at least eighty points with twenty or more assists per game. Additionally, this was only the thirteenth time since 2009 that Iowa recorded more than thirty assists in one contest.
Looking ahead, Iowa will play Drake on Thursday, November 13 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena at 7:30 p.m., with coverage available on BTN and through the Hawkeye Radio Network.
