University of Iowa senior Bennett Stirtz has been named to the CBS Sports Preseason Second-Team All-American list, according to an announcement from the outlet on Tuesday.
This is the second preseason All-America recognition for Stirtz, who was also chosen as a preseason fourth-team selection by Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook. He has additionally been named a preseason All-Big Ten honoree by Blue Ribbon, USA Today Network, and through a media vote conducted by the Big Ten office.
Stirtz is entering his first season with the Hawkeyes after transferring from Drake, where he earned All-American honors from three different outlets during the 2024-25 season. He was also named the Missouri Valley Conference Larry Bird Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
Last season, Stirtz led the Missouri Valley Conference in scoring with 19.2 points per game, steals at 2.21 per game, and assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.86. He ranked second in assists with 5.7 per game and led the NCAA in minutes played, averaging 39 minutes and 22 seconds per game.
Stirtz is one of five Big Ten players included in CBS Sports’ preseason All-America teams. The others are Purdue’s Braden Smith and Trey Kaufman-Renn, both named to the first team, UCLA’s Donovan Dent, also on the first team, and Michigan’s Yaxel Lendeborg on the second team.
The Iowa Hawkeyes will begin their 2025-26 season on November 4, hosting Robert Morris at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tickets for both single games and the full season are available through their official site at hawkeyesports.com/tickets.
