The University of Iowa men’s golf team is currently in 12th place after the second round of the Fallen Oak Collegiate, held at Fallen Oak Golf Club in Biloxi, Mississippi. The team recorded a score of one-under-par 287 on Sunday and stands at three-over-par for the tournament after 36 holes.
Sophomore Chance Rinkol led Iowa with a two-under-par 70, making three birdies on the front nine to finish with a 34 and shooting even-par on the back nine. He is tied for 26th individually. Junior Maxwell Tjoa also shot a two-under 70, tallying four birdies on the front nine and playing even-par golf through the back nine; he shares the same individual standing as Rinkol.
Freshman Bennett Warren carded an even-par 72 after birdieing three of his first six holes. He is tied for 42nd at one-over for the tournament. Redshirt freshman Grant Gudgel finished with a three-over 75, while senior Gage Messingham added a six-over 78 to complete Iowa’s lineup.
Head coach Tyler Stith commented on the team’s performance: "It’s great to see the team respond with a solid under par round. The wind was completely opposite from yesterday so the course played much different. The team adjusted well and made good decisions. We need to get all five guys going tomorrow. We have an opportunity to move up with a good round."
Iowa will finish play at the Fallen Oak Collegiate on Monday.
