The University of Iowa men's golf team placed sixth at the Moraine Intercollegiate, held at Moraine Country Club in Moraine, Ohio. The event concluded with redshirt freshman Grant Gudgel leading the Hawkeyes, finishing tied for seventh place at six-under-par. Gudgel posted an even-par 71 in the third round, earning his first career top-10 finish.
Senior Gage Messingham finished 13th overall at four-under-par after carding a two-over 73 in the final round. This marks Messingham's fifth career top-25 finish and his second consecutive tournament finishing in the top 25.
Sophomore Chance Rinkol finished 40th at three-over-par. Rinkol started strong in the third round with three birdies on the front nine but finished four-over for the day.
Junior Max Tjoa shot an even-par 71 in the third round, tying as Iowa's top finisher for that round with five birdies. He ended the tournament at seven-over-par after even-par rounds in both the second and third rounds.
Freshman Bennett Warren entered the final round at even par but shot a 77 (+6), including a bogey on the 13th hole, to finish 49th overall.
Head coach Tyler Stith commented on the team's performance: "It’s another step in the right direction. The team and two players had a chance to win heading into the final round. We just weren’t as sharp today. I don’t feel like putts were dropping out there and we had a few more big numbers. It was a great experience that we will benefit from."
The Hawkeyes are scheduled to compete next at the Fallen Oak Collegiate from October 18-20 in Biloxi, Mississippi.
