Ella Magallan, Big Ten Women’s Freshman of the Week | Iowa Hawkeyes Women's Cross Country
University of Iowa freshman Ella Magallan has been named the Big Ten Women’s Cross Country Freshman of the Week, according to an announcement made by the conference on Wednesday.
Magallan, who is from Burleson, Texas, completed her 5,000-meter debut at the Joe Piane Invite on October 3 with a time of 17:43.9. She was the fourth Hawkeye to finish in that race and has contributed points in all three races for Iowa this fall.
This marks the second time Magallan has received this honor during the current season. She previously earned the award on September 10 after finishing eighth at the Hawkeye Invite.
In total, Hawkeye athletes have won four weekly conference awards this season. The recipients include Ella Magallan as Women’s Freshman of the Week on both September 10 and October 8, Elena Torres as Women’s Athlete of the Week on September 10, and Luke Knepp as Men’s Athlete of the Week on September 24.
The Iowa women’s cross country team is currently ranked No. 15 in the latest USTFCCCA Midwest Region poll.
Iowa will compete next at its regular-season finale during the Pre-National Invitational in Columbia, Missouri, scheduled for October 18.
