The University of Iowa men's golf team finished tied for sixth place at the Fighting Irish Classic, held at Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Indiana. The team posted a final round score of seven-over-par 287.

Junior Max Tjoa led the Hawkeyes with a career-best performance, finishing as runner-up after carding a six-under-par 204 overall. Tjoa shot a two-under 68 in the final round, making birdies on holes three, five, 16, and 17. He competed in a three-man playoff and secured second place outright. Tjoa has now recorded under-par finishes in every event this season.

Redshirt freshman Grant Gudgel also contributed to the team's result by tying for 18th place overall. Gudgel scored one-under 69 in the third round with birdies on four different holes.

Senior Gage Messingham tied for 23rd after shooting a three-over-par 73 on Tuesday. This marks his fourth top-25 finish as a member of the Hawkeyes.

Sophomore Chance Rinkol completed his tournament with a seven-over-par 77, while freshman Bennett Warren finished with an eleven-over-par 81 to close out Iowa’s lineup.

Head coach Tyler Stith commented on the team's effort: "The guys did a really good job playing through the weather. We played the toughest stretch of holes through the worst conditions but that’s golf sometimes. Our four counters were +7 on the first four holes. Nobody hid and everyone battled.

Max deserves a lot of praise for his performance this week. He played an outstanding final nine holes to get a share of the lead. In the playoff he hit a few clutch shots. You got to give credit to Carson for making a long birdie putt to win."

The Hawkeyes are scheduled to compete next at the Moraine Intercollegiate in Dayton, Ohio, on October 13-14.
