The University of Iowa women’s golf team secured the team championship at the Diane Thomason Invitational on Tuesday at Finkbine Golf Course, posting a total score of 889 over three rounds (296-303-290). This marks the second consecutive year that Iowa has won this event.
Junior Maura Peters led the Hawkeyes with an even-par 72 in the final round. Peters, from Pleasant Valley, Iowa, finished tied for fifth place overall with a three-round score of 220 (75-73-72), making this her third career top-10 finish and her second consecutive top-10 tournament result.
Senior Shannyn Vogler achieved a season-best score of 221 (76-72-73), tying for eighth place. This is Vogler’s second career top-10 finish.
Freshman Sunny Wang improved her position by 22 places during the tournament to finish tied for 13th with a total score of 227 (75-80-72). Wang completed the final round with three birdies and 13 pars, earning her first top-20 result as a member of the Hawkeyes.
Senior Riley Lewis also tied for 13th with a total of 227 (76-78-73), recording her fourth career top-20 finish.
Junior Ximena Benites concluded Iowa’s lineup, finishing with an 81 in the third round. Additional individual performances included Kaitlyn Hanna (229), Adi Maki (238), Lily Huether (238), and Cailyn Rogers (242).
The Hawkeyes will next compete at the Prairie Dunes Invitational in Hutchinson, Kansas, scheduled for October 6–7.
