Iowa women’s golf sits fifth after second round at Badger Invitational

The University of Iowa women’s golf team completed the second round of the Badger Invitational at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday. The Hawkeyes finished the day with an even-par score of 288, bringing their total for two days to seven-over par and placing them fifth overall in the tournament.

Junior Maura Peters matched her career-low by shooting a three-under-par 69 to lead Iowa’s effort in the second round. Senior Riley Lewis ended the front nine at one-under and finished her round at even par, recording par or better on 16 out of 18 holes.

Senior Shannyn Vogler posted a score of 73, highlighted by three birdies. Her performance moved her up seven spots into a tie for 25th place after two rounds. Junior Ximena Benites shot a 74, including two birdies on the front nine, and currently sits in 21st place.

Freshman Sunny Wang completed Iowa’s lineup with a round of 76 and is tied for 46th place. Senior Kaitlyn Hanna competed as an individual and also carded a 76, tying Wang at eight-over par for the tournament.

Illinois leads the team standings at 13-under par after two days. Kaitlyn Helm from Washington State is atop the individual leaderboard at seven-under.

The third and final round of the Badger Invitational is scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 16, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Central Time.
