The University of Iowa women's volleyball team experienced its first loss of the 2025 season, falling to Southeast Missouri State in a five-set match at Houck Field House on Thursday night. This defeat ended a streak of five consecutive five-set victories for the Hawkeyes, marking their first such loss since 2023.

Graduate student Chard’e Vanzandt led Iowa with a season-high 22 kills and a .312 hitting percentage. "Vanzandt is the first Hawkeye with 20+ kills since Michelle Urquhart accomplished the feat last season against Illinois." Freshman Carmel Vares contributed a personal best of 17 kills and posted a .500 hitting percentage with only three errors. Senior libero Milana Moisio set a career record with 19 digs and added seven assists.

Senior Claire Ammeraal recorded 44 assists, seven kills, and seven digs. Redshirt sophomore Alyssa Worden tallied 10 kills and nine digs, while sophomore Jaimie Marquardt served three aces.

In the opening set, Iowa took an early lead and ultimately secured a 25-21 win, extending its streak to 14 consecutive set victories—tying for the third-longest in program history. The second set saw multiple ties and lead changes before SEMO claimed it 25-23. Iowa responded by winning the third set 25-19, hitting .514 as a team with Vanzandt and Vares accounting for most of the offense.

SEMO rallied in the fourth set to win 25-22 after overcoming an early deficit. In the decisive fifth set, SEMO started strong and used an eight-point run to secure a 15-7 victory.

The Hawkeyes will continue play at the SEMO Invite on Friday against Murray State at Houck Field House. There will be no video stream available for this match; however, fans can listen live to John Evans on the Hawkeye Radio Network.
