The University of Iowa women’s golf team is preparing to compete in the Badger Invitational, scheduled for September 14-16 in Madison, Wisconsin. The tournament will take place at the University Ridge Golf Course, which features a par-72 layout spanning 7,286 yards. Play will begin Sunday with a 9 a.m. (CT) shotgun start.

Iowa’s lineup for the tournament includes seniors Shannyn Vogler and Riley Lewis, juniors Ximena Benites and Maura Peters, and freshman Sunny Wang. Senior Kaitlyn Hanna will participate as an individual competitor.

The field consists of 14 teams: Bradley, Colorado State, Delaware, Denver, Illinois, Iowa, Sam Houston, South Dakota State, St. Thomas, UW-Green Bay, Washington State, Western Kentucky, Western Michigan, and Wisconsin.

University Ridge Golf Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones and is noted for its landscape shaped by glacial activity. The front nine features wide fairways and rolling greens while the back nine is surrounded by tall trees. The course has previously hosted significant events such as the 1998 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship.

At last year’s Badger Invitational in 2024, Iowa finished 10th with a total score of 908 over three rounds (302-298-308). Junior Ximena Benites tied for 20th place with a score of 225 across three rounds. Junior Maura Peters recorded career-best scores at that event and tied for 38th place during her first appearance in the Hawkeye lineup.

Recent performances include Benites tying for 18th at the Boilermaker Classic with a total score of 221 (69-78-74), matching her career-low round with a three-under-par 69 on day one. Freshman Sunny Wang tied for 25th in her debut with a total score of 224 (78-75-71). Both Vogler and Wang posted one-under-par rounds of 71 during round three at the Boilermaker Classic.

Following this tournament, Iowa will host the Diane Thomason Invitational presented by Scheels on September 29-30.
