Former University of Iowa running back Toren Young has been named honorary captain for the Hawkeyes’ upcoming game against UMass. The event will take place Saturday at Duke Slater Field at Kinnick Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 6:40 p.m. Central Time. The game will be broadcast on BTN.

Young played for the Hawkeyes from 2017 to 2019, earning three letters during his college football career. He contributed to Iowa’s victories in three bowl games: the 2017 Pinstripe Bowl, the 2019 Outback Bowl, and the 2019 Holiday Bowl. Over his time with the team, Young accumulated 1,262 rushing yards and scored nine touchdowns across 32 games. His total rushing yardage places him 37th in program history.

In his junior year in 2018, Young achieved a personal best with 637 rushing yards and six touchdowns, five of which were rushing scores. As a senior in 2019, he ran for 432 yards and one touchdown and served as a game captain four times. During his sophomore season, he recorded 193 yards and two touchdowns.

As honorary captain, Young will join Iowa’s team captains at midfield for the pregame coin toss and will spend time with the team in the locker room before and after the game.
