Iowa women’s golf finishes seventh at Boilermaker Classic

The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished seventh at the Boilermaker Classic, held at the Kampen-Cosler Course in West Lafayette, Indiana. The event marked the start of the Hawkeyes’ fall season.

Iowa posted a total score of 893 over three rounds, with individual round scores of 298, 303, and 292. The team improved its performance on the final day by reducing its score by 11 strokes compared to the previous round.

Junior Ximena Benites led Iowa’s lineup, tying for 18th place with a three-round total of 221. Benites’ opening round was her best of the week and matched her career low with a three-under-par 69 that included six birdies and ten pars.

Freshman Sunny Wang made her debut for Iowa and tied for 25th overall with a score of 224. Wang recorded four birdies in her third round along with eleven pars.

Senior Shannyn Vogler delivered Iowa’s lowest score in the third round, finishing with a one-under-par 71. Vogler completed the tournament with an overall score of 222.

No. 16-ranked Ole Miss secured first place at the tournament with a team total of 862.

Iowa’s next competition will be at the Badger Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin from September 14 to September 16.

“The Hawkeyes will have a week off before returning to action in Madison, Wisconsin at the Badger Invitational, September14–16.”
