Iowa women’s golf tied for seventh after opening day at Boilermaker Classic

The University of Iowa women’s golf team completed the first day of play at the Boilermaker Classic in West Lafayette, Indiana, finishing tied for seventh place among 14 teams after two rounds at the Kampen-Cosler Course. The Hawkeyes recorded a score of 298 in the opening round and followed with a 303 in the second round, totaling 601 (+25) over 36 holes.

Sophomore Ximena Benites led Iowa’s performance, tying for 16th place individually with a two-round total of 147 (+3). Benites matched her career-low round by shooting a 69 in the first round, making six birdies. She added two more birdies during her second round.

Senior Shannyn Vogler is tied for 30th at seven-over-par after posting scores of 75 and 76. Junior Maura Peters improved from an opening-round 77 to card a 75 in round two, bringing her total to eight-over-par and tying her for 33rd place.

Freshman Sunny Wang played her first tournament as a Hawkeye, improving by three strokes from her first to second round with scores of 78 and then 75. Riley Lewis finished with consecutive rounds of 77 for a total score of +10.

Ole Miss currently leads the team competition by two strokes over Indiana after completing the day at two-over-par.

Iowa will conclude its participation in the Boilermaker Classic on Tuesday, with play scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. Central Time.
