Kamari Moulton, preseason candidate for Doak Walker Award | Iowa Hawkeyes Men's Football
University of Iowa sophomore Kamari Moulton has been selected as a preseason candidate for the 2025 Doak Walker Award, according to an announcement from the PwC SMU Athletic Forum on Tuesday. The award is given each year to the top college running back in the nation and is named after Doak Walker, who was a three-time All-American at Southern Methodist University. This year marks the 35th time the award will be presented.
Moulton played in 12 games last season, starting two, and recorded 473 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He had his best performance with 114 yards, including a 68-yard touchdown run, during Iowa’s win over Maryland. Moulton has also earned a spot on Athlon’s Preseason All-Big Ten Third Team.
The process for selecting the Doak Walker Award recipient includes naming 10 semifinalists in November by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors. Three finalists will then be chosen by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, which consists of former recipients, NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members, and other representatives. The winner will be announced live on December 12, 2025.
Iowa has seen previous recognition from this award: Shonn Greene won it in 2008; Kaleb Johnson was a finalist in 2024; and Albert Young was a semifinalist in 2005.
The Hawkeyes are set to open their season against UAlbany on August 30 at Kinnick Stadium. Tickets for this game can be purchased through their official website at https://hawkeyesports.com/tickets/.
Several other Iowa players are included on watch lists for major national awards this year: Rhys Dakin (Ray Guy Award), Gennings Dunker (Outland Trophy and Wuerffel Award), Aaron Graves (Nagurski Trophy), Mark Gronowski (Maxwell Award), Logan Jones (Outland Trophy), Drew Stevens (Lou Groza Award), and Kaden Wetjen (Jet Award).
