Defensive back Ty Hudkins has officially joined the University of Iowa football program. The announcement was made by Moon Family Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz on Wednesday.
Hudkins, a sophomore from Grand Rapids, Michigan, stands at 5 feet 11 inches and weighs 197 pounds. He previously played for Purdue University, where he appeared in all 12 games primarily on special teams during his freshman year. His only tackle of the season came in the opener against Indiana State.
During his high school career at Forest Hills Central, Hudkins was recognized as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 18 player from Michigan by ESPN. He was also ranked as the No. 91 safety in his class by ESPN. Hudkins received accolades such as Michigan Player of the Year for divisions three and four by the Associated Press and earned first-team all-state honors both as a junior and senior.
In his senior year, Hudkins contributed to his team's state title victory with 98 tackles, eight pass breakups, and five interceptions. As a junior, he recorded 85 tackles, ten pass breakups, and two interceptions. During his sophomore year, he made an interception and three tackles on defense while catching six passes for 115 yards and a touchdown on offense.
