Waste and Recycling Workers Week, June 17-23, 2023, is celebrated in Iowa City to thank and honor all the people working in the waste and recycling industry.

The proper collection and disposal of waste, recycling, and organic waste are integral to preventing litter, disease, and negative environmental impact. The City of Iowa City values and celebrates workers in the public and private trash, recycling, and organics industry in our community.

To commemorate the week and celebrate the workers, Mayor Bruce Teague will proclaim June 17-23 as Waste and Recycling Workers Week in Iowa City at the June 20 City Council meeting.

The best way you can say “thank you” to those who collect your waste materials is to use your programs correctly. Below are resources that can help you do just that!

Resources:

Don’t have City of Iowa City curbside collection? If you are a customer of a private hauler in Iowa City, recycling program information per hauler is available at icgov.org/recycle under the “Apartment and Business Recycling” section.
