Henderson Takes Share of Floor Title at Big Ten Championships Share Twitter Facebook Mail Print

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The No. 25th ranked University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team finished fourth in session two and eighth overall after scoring a 196.125 on Saturday evening inside Xream Arena in front of 3,749 fans.

Senior JerQuavia Henderson shared the Big Ten Championship floor title after scoring a 9.950 to earn her second Big Ten Floor Champion title in her career. The Peoria, Illinois, native is tied for 12th nationally on the event, and is ranked second in the Big Ten.

Junior Adeline Kenlin earned Big Ten Championship Runner-Up after scoring a 9.950 on beam. The Iowa City, Iowa, native captured her seventh top-three finish of the season. She is tied for third on balance beam in the Big Ten and is tied 29th nationally on the event.

Vault

Iowa had four gymnasts score a 9.800 or higher on vault to finish with a team score of 49.100 in the first event. Karina Muñoz scored the second-highest score of her career to tie for ninth place overall with a 9.875. Linda Zivat and Henderson posted a pair of back-to-back 9.850’s to tie for 11th place overall. Allison Zuhlke finished with a 9.800, and Hanna Castillo scored a 9.725 while Gianna Masella posted a 9.600.

Bars

The GymHawks posted a new season-high team score on bars, finishing with a 49.300 with four gymnasts either tying or setting new career-highs. Zuhlke started the event off with a 9.825, just shy of her season high. Marissa Rojas and Masella earned new career-highs after scoring a 9.850 along with Henderson who tied her career-high. Muñoz scored the fourth 9.850 in a row, and Kenlin anchored the event to tie her career high and tie for 11th overall after posting a 9.900.

Beam

The Hawkeyes finished with a 48.875 on the third event, with Kenlin finishing as Big Ten Championship runner-up after scoring a 9.950 to tie her season high. Henderson started the rotation off with a 9.850 to help give the Hawkeyes some momentum. Rojas scored a 9.775, and Muñoz followed with a 9.750. Alexa Ebeling finished with a 9.100 and Aubrey Nick posted a 9.150.

Floor

Tied 17th nationally on floor, Iowa posted a 49.250 with four Hawkeyes scoring above a 9.800. Henderson anchored the event and captured her eighth-floor title of the year after scoring a 9.950. Castillo started the event with a 9.850 along with her teammate, Zivat. Bailey Libby finished with a 9.825, and Muñoz posted a 9.775. Kenlin scored a 9.575.

All Around

JerQuavia Henderson and Karina Muñoz both competed in the all-around with Henderson finishing fifth overall after posting a career-high 39.500. Muñoz tied for 11th place overall, posting a 39.250.

Up Next

The NCAA selection show takes place on March 20, where 36 teams will be announced to compete in Regionals. The NCAA Regional First Round takes place on Wednesday, March 29. Times and locations are TBA.
