The Black team allowed only two hits on its way to defeating the Gold team, 4-1, on Wednesday afternoon in the second game (seven innings) of the annual University of Iowa Baseball Black and Gold World Series.
Redshirt sophomore Keaton Anthony got the start for the Black team throwing 3.1 innings allowing one hit and striking out three. Junior Jack Young struck out four in 2.1 innings of work, and redshirt junior Luke Llewellyn closed out the final 1.1 innings of the game.
Redshirt junior Sam Hojnar led the way offensively for the Black team with a 2-for-4 day at the plate with an RBI. Sophomore Sam Petersen, freshman Gable Mitchell, and redshirt junior Brayden Frazier also each tallied an RBI.
Sophomore Marcus Morgan got the start for the Gold team throwing three innings and striking out two. Redshirt junior Chase Moseley and graduate student Brennen Dorighi recorded hits, and Dohrigi added an RBI.
The winner-take-all game three will take place tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. at Duane Banks Field. Admission is free.
