Flu vaccination campaign extended to Dec. 3

Fluvax

University Of Iowa Hospital & Clinics issued the following announcement on November 19.

Flu vaccination campaign extended to Dec. 3

You now have more time to comply with the mandatory employee and volunteer flu vaccination campaign.

You must receive the influenza vaccine (from the University Employee Health Clinic or elsewhere) or decline it in ReadySet by Friday, Dec. 3, in order to comply.

Flu is in our community

There has been a sudden increase in flu cases in Johnson County. Although an increase in flu this time of year is to be expected, this is earlier than we normally see the flu within our community. It’s important we do all we can to protect ourselves against the flu so that we can continue to meet the needs of Iowans who rely on us for care.

Elsewhere in the United States, such as at the University of Michigan, we’re also seeing this trend of flu increase as well, raising the risk for a “twindemic,” that is, fighting high numbers of the flu and COVID-19 at the same time.

Why we’re extending the campaign

We know that this fall has been busy, and we want you to be protected. Although flu cases may be rising, you still have time to get vaccinated and protect yourself and others. Getting vaccinated against the flu is the best way to keep yourself, your loved ones, your colleagues, and your patients safe and healthy.

This campaign extension allows you more time to get vaccinated and complete your mandatory compliance if you haven’t already done so. You can also work with your Human Resources representative or contact the University Employee Health Clinic (UEHC) if you change your mind about vaccination and need to reset your Ready Set survey.

If you’ve already taken the time to get vaccinated and complete your compliance, thank you for doing so and taking this important step to keeping yourself and our community healthy.

Complete your compliance

If you choose not to receive the flu vaccination, or if you received it outside of the University Employee Health Clinic or at a separate UI Health Care location, you must still record your participation in the campaign through ReadySet. Read more about how to do this here.

Act now to fight the flu

Receiving a flu vaccine is one way you can keep you, your family, colleagues, and patients safe and healthy. Getting your vaccination is free and easy: just walk into the University Employee Health Clinic between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on the first floor of Boyd Tower in General Hospital. An appointment isn’t necessary. If you work outside those hours, please work with your supervisor to review other options available to you.

Also, remember, flu vaccine is widely available in the community. We encourage you to choose whatever location offers the easiest access to the vaccine, including local pharmacies. Don’t forget, UI Health Care offers the flu vaccine at many of our clinic locations that are convenient and easy to schedule. Once vaccinated, please update your Ready Set record to reflect your vaccination status.
