Mount Mercy University recently issued the following announcement.
Saint Xavier opened up an 11-point halftime lead and kept Mount Mercy at bay over the final 20 minutes to hand the Mustangs a 72-64 road defeat on Saturday afternoon.
Mount Mercy dipped to 3-2 overall and 0-2 on the road this season after shooting just 38.5 percent from the floor. The Mustangs were 9-of-33 from 3-point range (27.3%) and only attempted six free throws.
RoyShawn Webb scored a team-high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Bailey Basala joined him in double figures with 17 points. Tyler Kelley and Melvin Lee had six rebounds each, Brandon Jackson dished out four assists and Webb and Kelley finished with three steals apiece.
Joshua Evans had a game-high 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Cougars (3-3). Jack Halverson added 17 points and eight boards, Maurice Chambers 12 points and four steals.
Mount Mercy heads to Waldorf looking for their first win away from Hennessey Recreation Center on Tuesday. The Mustangs and Warriors tip off at 7:00 pm at Hanson Fieldhouse in Forest City.
