Expectations for Iowa Home Game Days 2021

Expect

City of University Heights recently issued the following announcement.

Public intoxication and driving while impaired are illegal even on game day. Make sure your guests are not staggering.

Encourage them to plan for a safe ride home before the game starts.

• Streets and sidewalks must be kept clear. Leave enough open space on your private property to accommodate guests and their activities. You cannot congregate or set up chairs, tents, grills, games, or any other equipment on the street, sidewalk, or the area between the street and sidewalk.

• Vehicles can be parked on lawns on game day only (not before) and must be removed by midnight.

• Provide adequate refuse containers on your property for guests or require them to haul their trash away. All trash must be cleaned up by noon on the day after the game. Trash and recycling may not be set at the curb until Monday after 3:00 p.m., as always.

• Even on game day, Ordinance No. 159 is enforceable related to noise pollution in our City. Keep music and all sound at a reasonable level.

• Outdoor vending of merchandise of any sort (including items produced by Home Occupations permitted by the City Zoning Ordinance) is prohibited. (Ordinance No. 81)

• Do not display signage that invokes the feeling of a saloon, tavern, or bar.

• Be mindful of children and ask guests to curb inappropriate language and profanities.

• Be mindful of your neighbors’ property and make sure your guests are not trespassing.

• If you are a landlord selling tailgating spaces, tenant safety must be your priority.

• Portable toilets visible from the street can only be put in place the Thursday before each Saturday game and removed by 5:00 p.m. the Sunday after the game (adjust days for non-Saturday games).

• Portable toilets not visible from the street may be put in place the Thursday before the first game and removed within 72 hours of the last game. The portable toilets may not be hidden by a temporary structure or tarp.

The toilets must be cleaned by 5:00 p.m. the day after each game and must be kept locked on non-game days. (Ordinance No. 136) • For police assistance with game day issues, call the Communications Center at 319-356-6800. University Heights Police will triage responses. For emergencies, dial 911.
