The Iowa City Police Department (ICPD) recently announced that there have been reports regarding a spike in counterfeit U.S. currency circulating through the city.
Retailers are encouraged to inspect any large bills they find questionable. Retailers can use counterfeit detector pens and UV counterfeit detector machines come in handy as well.
If a resident or retailer finds that they have received counterfeit currency, they should contact the local police department immediately. keeping a record of the transaction helps to find the person who passed the bill. Have a security video of the suspect handy when filing the report.

Police are currently investigating the matter. Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers said that there is a reward of up to $1,000 for information that will lead investigators to the arrest of the suspect(s).
