Iowa women’s golf tied for sixth after opening round at Badger Invitational

The University of Iowa women's golf team completed the first round of the Badger Invitational at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin, on Sunday. The Hawkeyes posted a team score of 7-over par (295), placing them in a tie for sixth after day one.

Junior Ximena Benites and senior Riley Lewis led the team, both finishing at 1-over par (73) and tying for 14th place overall. Benites recovered from a challenging front nine, shooting 4-over par before delivering a team-best 3-under on the back nine.

Maura Peters, also a junior, carded a 74 with three birdies during her round and is tied for 25th place. Shannyn Vogler finished with a score of 75 (+3), landing her in 32nd place. Sunny Wang completed Iowa's lineup with a round of 76.

Senior Kaitlyn Hanna competed as an individual and matched Vogler’s score at 75 (+3), tying her for 32nd.

Illinois leads the tournament at 2-under par after the opening round. On the individual leaderboard, Kaitlyn Helm of Washington State holds first place at 6-under.

The second round of play is scheduled to begin Monday, September 15, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Central Time.
