University of Iowa senior Bennett Stirtz has been selected to the preseason All-Big Ten team by the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook, according to an announcement from Blue Ribbon.
Stirtz, originally from Liberty, Missouri, is entering his first season with the Hawkeyes. During the 2024-25 season at Drake University, he earned All-American honors from three different outlets. He was also recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference Larry Bird Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
In his previous season, Stirtz led the Missouri Valley Conference in scoring with 19.2 points per game, steals at 2.21 per game, and had a conference-best assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.86. He ranked second in assists with 5.7 per game and led all NCAA players in minutes played, averaging just over 39 minutes per contest.
Joining Stirtz on the five-player preseason All-Big Ten team are Braden Smith and Trey Kaufman-Renn from Purdue, Yaxel Lendeborg from Michigan, and Donovan Dent from UCLA.
The Iowa Hawkeyes are preparing for their upcoming season under new head coach Ben McCollum. The team features 12 newcomers among its 14 players and has been projected to finish seventh out of 18 teams in the Big Ten according to Blue Ribbon's forecast for the 2025-26 season.
