Black Takes Game 1 Of Black And Gold Series

The Black team defeated the Gold team, 12-3, on the first night of the Black and Gold Series.

For the Black team, eight of the nine starters all recorded at least one hit and six of them recorded at least one RBI. They were lead by freshmen Tory Bennett, Tristin Doster, and senior Nia Carter who, combined, recorded eight hits and six RBIs.

Fifth-year Breanna Vasquez was the starting pitcher for the Black team going the first three innings and holding the Gold team scoreless. Freshman Kelsey Winters entered the game in the fourth and went 2 innings, giving up one run. Sophomore Emma Henderson pitched the final two innings giving up three runs.

Sophomore Katherine Serna was the starter for the Gold team, going three innings and surrendering three runs. The Gold team used the arms of Denali Loecker, Jalen Adams, and Sterling Berndt to close out the game.

The one through three hitters of, Rylie Moss, Brlyee Klosterman, and Grace Banes, for the Gold team went 6-10 with three RBIs.

The Black team finished the game with 12 runs on 12 hits and no errors. The Gold team finished with 3 runs on 10 hits and 4 errors

Iowa returns to action this Sunday, Oct. 16 as they travel to Normal, Illinois. They will play a double header as they take on Illinois-Springfield at 1:30 p.m. CT and Illinois State at 4 p.m. CT. Both games will take place at Marian Kneer Stadium on the campus of Illinois State.
