City of North Liberty recently issued the following announcement.

Best-selling author of The Incendiaries, R.O. Kwon, joins Local Libraries LIT to talk about her work and support local libraries on March 3 at 7 p.m.

Kwon’s bestselling debut novel, The Incendiaries, was named a best book of the year by over forty publications, received the Housatonic Book Award and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle John Leonard Award, the Los Angeles Times First Book Prize, and the Northern California Independent Booksellers Association Fiction Prize.

This sixth online event in the series offered by public libraries in Johnson County, as well as the University of Iowa and Kirkwood Libraries with support from the Community Foundation of Johnson County and  The Tuesday Agency.

“Local Libraries LIT demonstrates the power of libraries working together to delight our communities.” says Elsworth Carmen, Director, Iowa City Public Library, “Collaborating to identify internationally-known, contemporary authors of interest to local readers and facilitating engaging, discussion-based programs that are open to all; this is what modern library programming should look like.”

Kwon was born in South Korea and has lived most of her life in the United States. As an author and essayist, her writing explores identity, sexuality, and the comforts and complications of religion. She coedited Kink, which released from Simon & Schuster in 2021, and her next novel and essay collection are forthcoming from Riverhead.

The goal of Local Libraries LIT is to grow a thriving community which shines with diversity, equity, and inclusion. The event is free and open to the public. Reservations for a suggested donation can be made online.
