The University of Iowa women’s golf team is set to host the Diane Thomason Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course on September 29 and 30. The event will feature a 54-hole format, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start each day.

Iowa’s lineup for the invitational includes juniors Maura Peters and Ximena Benites, seniors Shannyn Vogler and Riley Lewis, and freshman Sunny Wang. Seniors Kaitlyn Hanna and Adie Maki will compete as individuals, along with sophomore Lily Huether and freshman Cailyn Rogers.
The field consists of 16 teams: Bowling Green, Bradley, Creighton, Drake, Iowa, Missouri State, Montana State, Nebraska Omaha, North Dakota State, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, South Dakota, Southern Illinois, Southern Miss, St. Thomas and Western Michigan.
Finkbine Golf Course covers more than 200 acres in Iowa City. It features bentgrass greens and over 50 sand traps. The course is operated by Troon and owned by the University of Iowa Athletics Department.
Last year at this event, the Hawkeyes won the team title with a total score of 906 (288-299-319). Paula Miranda led Iowa with a co-runner-up finish at 222 (72-71-79), helping place five golfers inside the top 20. In 2018, Iowa also claimed victory at the invitational with a team score of 898 (299-299-300), finishing well ahead of second-place North Dakota State. Shawn Rennegarbe earned medalist honors that year with a score of 221.
In their most recent competition at the Badger Invitational, Iowa finished sixth overall with a total score of 882 (295-288-299). Junior Maura Peters led the team individually by finishing ninth with a score of 215.
Senior Adie Maki and sophomore Lily Huether are making their season debuts at this week’s invitational. Freshman Cailyn Rogers will play her first tournament as a Hawkeye. Junior Maura Peters recorded her best career finish last week at the Badger Invitational. Senior Riley Lewis posted her season-best performance there as well.
Juniors Ximena Benites and Maura Peters have contributed all six rounds toward the team score so far this fall season; both hold an average score of 73.83 through two events.
After hosting this tournament, Iowa will compete next at the Prairie Dunes Invitational in Hutchinson, Kansas on October 6–7.
