Iowa volleyball falls to Weber State in five-set match at SEMO Invitational

The University of Iowa women's volleyball team was defeated by Weber State in five sets during the final match of the SEMO Invitational held in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on Saturday. With this loss, the Hawkeyes' record stands at 7-2 for the season and 1-2 in five-set matches for 2025.

Weber State recorded 13 aces but also had 15 service errors. Iowa achieved a season-high with 10 aces and committed six service errors.

Freshman Carmel Vares led the team offensively, setting a career high with 19 kills and a .548 hitting percentage. Over the weekend, Vares accumulated a total of 39 kills. Senior Milana Moisio matched her career best with 18 digs and contributed two service aces on defense. Junior Hannah Whittingstall tied her personal record with four service aces and led the team with seven blocks, adding five kills as well.

Sophomore Aleksandra Stojanovic had seven kills and led Iowa in hitting percentage at .875. Senior Claire Ammeraal provided 43 assists along with seven kills and five blocks. Graduate student Chard’e Vanzandt finished with 10 kills in the match and tallied 40 over the course of the weekend.

Looking ahead, Iowa will start a five-match homestand beginning Wednesday evening when they host Iowa State in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series match at Xtream Arena. The first serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Central Time.
