Fourteen Iowa gymnasts earn WCGA Scholastic All-American honors

Fourteen gymnasts from the University of Iowa have been recognized as Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Scholastic All-Americans, according to an announcement made by the WCGA on Monday.

The student-athletes named are Avery Chambers, Alexa Ebeling, Emily Erb, Alyse Karenbauer, Adeline Kenlin, Cassie Lee, Gianna Masella, Marissa Rojas, Aurelie Tran, Sydney Turner, Kaia Vanney, Eva Volpe, Katelyn Wiederspahn and Reese Wilson.

According to the WCGA criteria, honorees must maintain a grade point average of 3.50 or higher during the academic year or cumulatively throughout their collegiate career. This year saw a record number of 1,218 Scholastic All-Americans recognized by the association.

Among the Iowa athletes honored were Cassie Lee (dentistry), Aurelie Tran (biochemistry & molecular biology), Kaia Vanney (health science), and Eva Volpe (public health). These four were among 302 student-athletes nationwide who achieved a perfect 4.00 GPA.
