City of Iowa City recently issued the following announcement.
Mayor Bruce Teague has declared March Women's History Month in Iowa City. The proclamation can be read online.
The National Women’s History Alliance designates a yearly theme for Women's History Month. The 2022 theme is "Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope." This theme is "both a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and also a recognition of the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history."
Women’s History Month has been observed annually in the month of March since 1987. It is a recognition and celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture, and society.
During Women’s History Month, we acknowledge the paid and unpaid achievements and contributions made by women despite institutional and systemic injustices designed to prevent and limit these achievements and contributions. Women in the United States have also been leaders in the Abolitionist Movement, the Labor Movement, the Civil Rights Movement, the #metoo & #blacklivesmatter movements, and many other movements, creating a more fair and just society for all.
