City of Coralville issued the following announcement.
During Mayor’s Clean Up Week in Coralville, throw away large, broken items that won’t fit in your trash cart (such as a piece of broken furniture or a bathroom fixture) on your City trash day from October 4-8, 2021. Some restrictions apply. This free collection is available to Coralville residences with city trash and recycling services.
Place items curbside up to 24 hours before or by 7:00 am on your regular trash collection day. If any items are not picked up, remove them from the curb within 24 hours after collection day. Metal is picked up by a separate truck to be recycled, and may be picked up on a day other than your regular collection day.
Guidelines
Please note the following restrictions:
- Items must be able to be reasonably lifted by two people.
- Items must fit in the garbage truck. Dismantle large items.
- See www.coralville.org/cleanup for a full list of what we’ll take. Items we will not take include construction materials, hazardous materials, pallets, hot tubs, railroad ties, concrete brick or block, and wooden swingsets (appliances, electronics, and tires are picked up by appointment only; schedule a special pick up).
- The City cannot pick up items that are hazardous to our trucks or staff.
- See complete guidelines at www.coralville.org/cleanup or call 319.248.1740.
What to do with usable items
Do not throw away usable items. Usable furniture or building and housing materials can be donated to the Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore or other area agencies, rather than sending them to the landfill. Where to donate usable items
Recycle cardboard
High volumes of materials are collected during Mayor’s Clean Up Week. If you have a large amount of cardboard to recycle, take it any time to the Coralville Drop-Off Recycling Center at 950 Hughes Street or any drop-off location in Johnson County. All cardboard must be flattened. Learn about cardboard recycling
