City of Iowa City issued the following announcement on September 08.

The City of Iowa City’s Office of Equity and Human Rights is sponsoring an Expungement and Employment Barriers Resource Clinic on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021.

The City is working with Iowa Legal Aid to provide a clinic aimed at alleviating the burdens of juvenile and criminal legal involvement. Pre-registration is required. A registration form can be submitted online here or by calling Iowa Legal Aid at 319-409-9226. The deadline for registration is Friday, Oct. 1 at 5 p.m.

Once an application is submitted, Iowa Legal Aid will determine if the applicant meets the necessary requirements. Eligible applicants will receive one-on-one legal assistance from an attorney for issues related to criminal record expungement (the sealing of court files on a past criminal conviction), court debt, driver's license and vehicle registration issues, and criminal records that are being used in legally challengeable ways.

The Clinic is hosted by the Iowa City Public Library.
