Iowa City's forestry division is set to begin another targeted tree planting project in the northern part of the city.

More than 150 trees will be planted in the spaces between the sidewalk and the street in the Mackinaw Village neighborhood. This is in line with the forestry division's climate action goals. A big focus is for a diversity of trees to be planted so that problems like the current one with the Emerald Ash Borer won't be an issue.

To request a tree for the right of way in your neighborhood or to get a permit to plant your own tree, visit the city website.

Crews continue to pick up limbs and branches left by the derecho two weeks ago. Large limbs greater than four inches in diameter less than six inches in length can be placed on the curb. For faster debris removal, limbs can be taken to the Iowa City Transit Facilities from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through the month of August. There are no size limitations or bundling requirements. Debris can also be placed in the curbside organics cart or taken to the landfill. More information can be found at www.icgov.org/stormrecovery.
