Former University of Iowa men’s basketball forward Payton Sandfort has signed a deal with the NBA Champion Oklahoma City Thunder. The Waukee, Iowa native had an impressive college career, averaging 16.7 points and six rebounds as a senior. He was named an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection and scored in double figures in 27 games, including 14 games where he scored over 20 points.

Sandfort made a team-high 84 three-point field goals during his final season. Notably, he hit a career-high eight three-pointers in his last collegiate game against Illinois in the Big Ten Tournament, tying a tournament record. In that game, he also matched his career-high with 30 points.

Throughout his college career, Sandfort achieved significant milestones. He received the Chris Street Award for the 2024-25 season and finished first in free throw percentage (.896), second in three-point field goals (271), and 11th in scoring (1,619) at the University of Iowa.
