The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team, ranked 19th nationally, will host a quad meet this Friday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The event will feature Central Michigan, Southeast Missouri, and Northern Illinois. Competition is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. (CT), and the university will honor six seniors following the meet.
Tickets for the event are priced at $15 for adults, while youth can attend free of charge. Fans unable to attend in person can watch via B1G+ with a subscription or follow live results on hawkeyesports.com and updates on X (@IowaGymnastics).
The seniors being recognized are Hanna Castillo, Avery Chambers, Emily Erb, Gianna Masella, Karina Muñoz, and Kaia Vanney. Additionally, fifth-year seniors JerQuavia Henderson, Marissa Rojas, and Haley Tyson will be honored.
The Hawkeyes concluded their Big Ten regular season with a 6-3 record, finishing fourth overall—an improvement from last year’s 5-4 record and fifth-place finish.
In their most recent competition at the Big Four Meet, Iowa placed second with a score of 196.475. They finished behind No. 5 UCLA but ahead of No. 19 Ohio State and No. 25 Maryland. Sophomore Aurélie Tran shared the bars title with a score of 9.900; Henderson tied for second on floor (9.900), while sophomore Sydney Turner was third on beam (9.875). Freshman Sophie Schriever took second in the all-around (39.300), followed by Tran in third (39.275).
Entering this week’s meet, Iowa holds an NQS score of 196.436 and ranks among the top teams nationally: No. 12 on bars (49.221), No. 18 on vault (49.068), No. 21 on beam (49.014), and No. 22 on floor (49.161). Individually, Tran is ranked 11th nationally in all-around and fourth in the Big Ten; she also stands at No. 15 nationally and third in conference on bars (9.910). Schriever is ranked No. 17 nationally in all-around.
Central Michigan comes into Friday’s meet with a strong record of 10-1 overall and remains undefeated in conference play at 5-0 as they lead the Mid-American Conference with two meets left this season.
Southeast Missouri enters with a record of 10-16 overall and is currently riding a four-meet win streak.
Northern Illinois has posted a record of 5-13 overall but recently achieved its season-high floor score against Central Michigan.
Iowa has set several program records this season: highest team total with a score of 197.225 against Nebraska; new program bests on bars (49.450 vs Penn State) and tied eighth-best bars mark at Rutgers; as well as tying for sixth-best floor performance in school history against Penn State.
Daisy Bowles tied for second place on uneven bars this season with a score of 9.950; Tran and Schriever both tied for eighth place on uneven bars with scores of 9.925 each; Tran also tied for eleventh place all-around with another score of 9.925.
The current roster includes three Canadian athletes—Aurélie Tran, Cassie Lee, and Sydney Turner—all sophomores who competed as Olympians in Paris during summer 2024. Tran leads Iowa with twelve event titles so far this season across multiple disciplines including all-around competitions.
Freshman Sophie Schriever is notable as the only first-year athlete competing all-around for Iowa this year; she has already posted five event titles including two all-arounds along with high marks on vault, beam, and bars.
Attendance records were broken earlier this year when over four thousand fans attended Iowa’s home meet against Nebraska—the largest crowd ever recorded for GymHawks competition inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
This year’s freshman class features Maggie Ball from Oklahoma; Daisy Bowles from Nevada—who was named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week February twenty-fourth—Stella DePaola from Arizona; and Sophie Schriever from Utah.
After Friday’s home finale honoring its seniors, Iowa will travel to Minneapolis next week to compete in another quad meet hosted by Minnesota alongside Northern Illinois and Illinois.
