No. 15 Iowa defeated No. 25 Washington with a score of 65-56 on Wednesday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. The win improved Iowa’s record to 19-5 overall and 10-3 in conference play, while Washington dropped to 18-7 and 8-6.
Iowa’s Chit-Chat Wright led all scorers with 21 points, shooting six-for-13 from the field and five-of-eight from three-point range. Wright also contributed four assists. Senior Hannah Stuelke recorded her seventh double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and tying her career high with 16 rebounds.
Seven Hawkeyes scored during the first quarter, which ended with Iowa leading Washington, 25-19. The Hawkeye defense forced four turnovers by Washington, resulting in three points for Iowa.
Wright opened the second quarter with a deep three-pointer that sparked an 11-0 run for Iowa over five minutes, leading to a timeout by Washington. During this stretch, Iowa’s defense kept Washington scoreless for seven minutes. By halftime, Iowa led by six points at 36-30.
In the third quarter, both teams increased their offensive output. Sophomore Ava Heiden added seven points for Iowa during this period as the Hawkeyes extended their lead after a brief scoring run.
The fourth quarter featured strong defensive play from both sides. Washington narrowed the gap to two possessions late in the game before senior Kylie Feuerbach hit a crucial three-pointer for Iowa. The Hawkeyes finished on a 7-2 run to secure the victory.
After the game, individual performances were highlighted: Hannah Stuelke’s double-double was her seventh this season and eighteenth of her career—sixth-most since 2009 for the program—and she has reached double figures in nine consecutive games. Ava Heiden notched double figures for the twelfth straight game against Big Ten opponents and had eleven points on Wednesday night.
Team achievements included playing in front of their forty-ninth consecutive home sellout crowd—the longest active streak nationally—and improving their record to fifteen wins without a loss when leading at halftime this season. Since last year, they have won sixteen out of eighteen home games and are now six-and-two under head coach Jan Jensen against ranked teams at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The Hawkeyes’ next game is scheduled against Nebraska on Monday, February 16th at Lincoln; it will be broadcast on FOX and available via the Hawkeye Radio Network.
