University of Iowa freshman Daisy Bowles has been named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference. This marks her first career honor from the Big Ten.

Bowles shares this week’s recognition with Ashlee Sullivan from UCLA. The award follows Bowles’ recent performance on bars against No. 19 Penn State, where she achieved a career-high score of 9.950 and secured her first event title.

Her score tied for second in Iowa’s individual record book and contributed to the Hawkeyes setting a new program record with a team total of 49.450 on bars.

Head coach Jen Llewellyn commented, “I am super happy and proud that Daisy was named Freshman of the Week. She is very deserving of this honor because she works extremely hard and wants to be successful for this team. She competes exactly how she practices every day, and I am thrilled to see her earn her flowers with a score that reflects her true potential.”

With this award, Iowa extends its streak to six consecutive seasons having at least one gymnast receive a Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor. Bowles is also the first Hawkeye gymnast to receive a weekly conference award this season.

The Hawkeyes, who are nationally ranked, will travel to Los Angeles for the Big Four Meet where they will compete against UCLA, Ohio State, and Maryland at Pauley Pavilion. The meet is scheduled for 9 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on FS1.
