University of Iowa sophomore Ava Heiden has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week. Heiden played a key role in leading the Hawkeyes to victories over Nebraska, Purdue, and sixth-ranked Michigan. Over these three games, she averaged 24 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, two steals, and 1.6 blocks per game while making 33 of her 44 field goal attempts.
Heiden matched her career-high with 27 points against Nebraska, also recording 11 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks. In the win over Purdue, she contributed 21 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Facing No. 6 Michigan on Sunday, Heiden secured her fourth career double-double with at least 20 points and helped the Hawkeyes achieve their seventh win over a ranked opponent this season.
Currently from Sherwood, Oregon, Heiden ranks fourth nationally in field goal percentage at 64 percent and is averaging 17.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game this season. This marks her third time receiving Big Ten Player of the Week honors both for this season and in her career.
The Hawkeyes will play their final home game of the regular season against Illinois on Thursday, February 26 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The matchup is scheduled for an 8 p.m. (CT) tipoff and will be broadcast on BTN as well as the Hawkeye Radio Network.
